Constellium’s recycled aluminium coil approved by Crown

Aluminium coil produced from used beverage cans and post-consumer scrap at Constellium’s newly-inaugurated recycling centre in France has been qualified by canmaker Crown.

The canstock from the Neuf-Brisach facility is said to have passed rigorous tests at Crown’s beverage can plants in France and Spain. The approval of the coils marks “a significant step forward in the sustainability journeys of both companies,” says Swiss-based Constellium. The amount of recycled content in the coil was not revealed, nor its gauge.

The centre, located on a site near the border with Germany since 1967, adds 130,000 metric tons of aluminium recycling capacity a year, bringing Constellium’s global recycling capacity to approximately 735,000 metric tons across its facilities in Europe and North America.

Crown’s approval of the aluminium coil is a key achievement for Constellium which along with other aluminium suppliers is keen to help its customers meet their sustainability goals.

For Crown, the use of Constellium’s aluminium coil enables the canmaker to increase the amount of recycled content in its cans. John Rost, Crown’s chief of Technology, Sustainability & Regulatory Affairs, said: “We are delighted with the development of this new recycling centre that brings more used beverage can recycling capacity to the market, aligning with our ongoing commitment toward circularity.
