US tariffs still effective on steel and aluminium imports
Time of issue::2025-03-21 14:35

US tariffs on steel and aluminium from Canada and Mexico will still go ahead, confirmed Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick on 9 March.
Lutnick told NBC News that the 25% tariffs would be applied from 12 March, despite President Trump’s u-turn on some tariffs applied to trade with Canada and Mexico earlier this week.
According to a White House ‘fact sheet’ 25% tariffs will apply to “goods that do not satisfy US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) rules of origin”.
However, goods that do qualify and claim USMCA preference are exempt. Trump delayed tariffs on parts for automakers for one month.
